About

Chilgrove Dry Gin 44% - 70cl

Simply put, this is a proper gin. It is smooth, with peppery, citrus and floral notes, and a good juniper backbone. Classic and well-considered.

Chilgrove have approached the market from a thorough, but simple angle - to produce an excellent quality gin using methods and products that work. Chilgrove uses 11 botanicals, and natural mineral water from The South Downs. A few of the key botanicals are sourced from the area, the most notable, wild water mint.

It's not just methods and products that make a good gin, a lot of it comes down to the distiller - Chilgrove is produced by a master distiller who has an impressive heritage in distilling - the family has been in the trade since the 17C!

The Taste

Chilgrove provides a big hit of juniper both on the nose and the palate, but floating invitingly above, there's a floral delicateness. The addtional citrus notes and the pepperiness from the grains of paradise make for a refreshing finish. We definitely approve of the smoothness provided by the grape-based spirit and the liquorice.

The choice of a grape derived spirit is rather surprisingly a more unique choice in the UK - these days, most distillers choose a cereal based grain spirit, but Chilgrove nods to the days gone by when the original Jenever spirit utilised the grape.

The Botanicals

11 botanicals: Juniper, coriander, wild water mint, grains or paradise, savory, angelica root, citrus peel (lemon, lime, seville oranges), bearded iris, liquorice
