Malfy Con Rosa (Sicilian Pink Grapefruit Gin) 41% - 70cl
A really zesty bitter-sweet citrus gin from Malfy distillery in Italy - owned by the Vergano Family and established in 1872. Malfy Gin Rosa is made by the following method; juniper and rhubarb are steeped in a high-proof alcohol for 2-3 days before being drained and squeezed in a basket press. This intial infusion is then distilled for four hours in a steel vacuum still. (As with other vacuum distilled gins, this produces, in our opinion, a more delicate "slow-cooked" gin.) The resultant distillate is then bleneded with Malfy's other gin distillates, which include: juniper, grapefruit peel. Almalfi Coast lemon peel, coriander, cassia bark, angelica, and orris root.
A grapefruit led, crisp and slightly sweet hinted flavour is obvious. This isn't a gin liqueur, but it goes perfectly well with Prosecco or for something slightly less alcoholic, a Fever Tree Sicilian Lemon Tonic is a good choice.
