Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Gin 47% - 50cl
Monkey 47 is a magical gin from The Black Forest of Germany that contains 47 different botanicals and takes it provenance from a recipe created by a British expat in the 1940's named Montgomery Collins. Collins was a wing commander in the RAF before assisting with the rebuilding of Germany in the post war years, professionally he tried his hand it watch making once he'd settled in the the Black Forest but it turned out he was much better at gin making. This recipe (if you choose to believe the story..) has been lovingly recreated by ginthusiast Alexander Stein and has become a cult classic within the world of gin drinkers.
The Taste
This gin is as complex and exciting as you might expect from one bearing 47 botanicals, but while some may argue that less is more, this gin shows that with the right balance a wide palette of botanicals can work in harmony. The juniper is very much still the ring leader.
